Rivkin & Noseworthy named 1st Team All-Canadians

Memorial University Sea-Hawks fourth-year striker Jessie Noseworthy (St. John's, NL) and fifth-year midfield Hannah Rivkin (St. John's, NL) have both been named 2016 U Sports 1st Team All-Canadians in women's soccer.

The Sea-Hawks women's soccer team finished the 2016 AUS regular season with a second overall finish and a 10-1-1 record.  Leading the way for the Sea-Hawks were Noseworthy and Rivkin, who finished first and second in league scoring with 23 and 16 points, respectively.

Last week Noseworthy was named the 2016 AUS Most Valuable Player and an AUS 1st Team All-Star, with Rivkin also being named to the AUS 1st Team.

When hearing of the news, Sea-Hawks Head Coach Mike Power was not surprised and felt both players were deserving of the recognition.  First he spoke about Noseworthy and the season she had.

"Jessie's offensive output this season has been remarkable. To lead the AUS in both goals and assists is especially impressive. Her success can be attributed to her handwork, and I'm very pleased that she has been recognized as a 1st Team All-Canadian."

Coach Power was extremely happy to see Rivkin honoured as well and talked about the impact Rivkin had on his squad.

"Hannah is a special player that has had an outstanding career and a significant impact on the culture of Sea-Hawks women's soccer. She presents a rare combination of extremely high talent, extremely high motivation, and extremely high work-rate. She shows up at her best level every single day and is fully deserving of finishing her varsity career as 1st Team All-Canadian.

Noseworthy was selected to the CIS (now U Sports) 2nd Team in 2014, while Rivkin was named to the 2nd Team in 2013 and again last season.  This is the first time either has been named a 1st Team All-Canadian, and both are the first Sea-Hawk to win the award since Laura Breen did so in 2009.
