Sea-Hawks complete weekend sweep of Huskies

Saturday: Sea-Hawks score 7-0 victory over Huskies

(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at King George V Soccer Field in St. John's. 

Memorial was able to get on the score sheet early when rookie Nicole Torraville (St. John's, NL) scored from just outside the box at the 15-minute mark to put the Sea-Hawks ahead. Jessie Noseworthy was able to extend the Sea-Hawks lead to 3-0 with back to back goals in 16th minute and 35th minute.  Jane Pope would add one more for the home side before the half to give the Sea-Hawks a 4-0 lead.

Memorial outshot Saint Mary's 16-1 in the first half and the score could have been higher, but Saint Mary's received a strong performance from goalkeeper Ashley Blank (Cole Harbour, NS) who finished the game with 11 saves. 

The Sea-Hawks continued their strong play in the second half, with Jane Pope (St. John's, NL) scoring in the 45th minute, followed by goals from Hannah Rivkin (St. John's, NL) and Holly O'Neill.

Jane Pope was the Subway Player of the Game registering two goals, while also adding an assist.

Sunday: Sea-Hawks complete weekend sweep of Huskies

(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's soccer team was able to complete the weekend sweep of the Saint Mary's Huskies with a 9-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at King George V soccer pitch. 

Memorial opened the scoring early on Sunday, with Jessie Noseworthy (St. John's, NL) setting up Nicole Torraville (St. John's, NL) just 15 seconds into the game.  The Sea-Hawks were able to control much of the play in the first half and outshot the Huskies 11 to 1. 

Huskies keeper Samantha Sarty was tested often and made a number of point blank saves to keep the visitors in the game. 

Maria Mackey (St. John's, NL) was very active around the net in the first half and she was rewarded with two goals for her efforts.  The Sea-Hawks would go into the half up 3-0.

The Sea-Hawks continued their strong play into the second half and registered 12 shots to the Huskies 1.  Memorial was able to find the back of the net five times in the second half with goals coming from Hannah Rivkin (St. John's, NL), Emily Bailey (Mount Pearl, NL), and Nicole Torraville (St. John's, NL).  Jessie Noseworthy also added three for the Sea-Hawks to move her into first place in the AUS with 10 goals this season.

Noseworthy was the Subway Player of the Game registering three goals, while also adding two assists.

The Sea-Hawks take to the road next weekend to take on the UPEI Panthers and the Mount Allison Mounties.  Game time is 2:00pm NST and can be watched live on AUStv.ca
