Sea-Hawks end semester on a 3 game win streak

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Women's Basketball team finishes the season in 5th place on a 3 game winning streak.

 

The Sea-Hawks defeated the Cape Breton Capers twice this past weekend at home to hold a 3 game win streak, a positive end to the first part of the season. Early in the first game, Sea-Hawks #7 Alana Short took the game in her hands, netting 7 of the Sea-Hawk's first 12 points. The Capers struggled to find the basket and the first quarter, gaining only 12 points whereas the Sea-Hawks gained an impressive 27 points. The Capers managed to gain each of the next two quarters but the Sea-Hawks halted them with strong defense in the final quarter, forcing them to only 8 points. The Sea-Hawks came out on top 78-72 after a back to back, hard fought game. Game point leaders were Sea-Hawks #7 Alana Short with a season high 30 points in a single game. Capers #19 Kiyara Letlow gained the games only double-double with 10 rebounds and 22 points.

The next game followed a similar line going back and forth all game. The teams traded leads in the first quarter but the Sea-Hawks found a consistent lead that grew to 15 in the second quarter. At half, Memorial led 45-34 with #15 Hannah Green going 5 for 5 in the field gaining 11 points in the first half. Right behind her was #7 Alana Short and #8 Rebecka Ekstrom with 10 points a piece. #3 Chermensa Van la Parra led the Capers in scoring with 11 points. The teams continued to play tight where the Sea-Hawks held a lead with the Capers trailing close behind. The game ended in a 83-77 win for the Sea-Hawks. Capers #3 Chermensa Van la Parra led the game with an impressive 33 points of her team's 77. Point leader for Memorial was #7 Alana Short who netted 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Capers #19 Kiyara Letlow gained her second double-double of the weekend with 15 points and 10 rebounds. 

The Sea-Hawks will be looking to extend their win streak after the break where they will first face the St.FX X-Men on the road. Sea-Hawks #7 Alana Short leads the team with 19.4 points per game and leads the AUS with 194 points. Behind Short is #15 Hannah Green with 124 points and #8 Rebecka Ekstrom with 115 points. #7 Alana Short leads the team in both blocks and steals with 12 and 10 respectively.
