Sea-Hawks face Red Hot Axe-Women

 

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Women's basketball team (2-4) will be hitting the court in Nova Scotia to take on the Acadia Axe-Women (4-2).

 

The Sea-Hawks split last weekend's games with the St. FX X-Women. St. FX played a strong and consistent game on friday. At halftime, the X-Women were leading 37-31. The Sea-Hawks attempted to counter attack by outscoring the X-Women 22-18 in the third quarter but the X-Women strengthened their defense to haut Memorial's offense in the fourth quarter, allowing only 7 points. The Sea-Hawks converted 21 turnovers allowing Stfx to gain major points off of these plays. Game point leaders were St.FX Katie Upham and Kristine Cooper with 18 apiece. Point leader for the Sea-Hawks was Alyssa Jenkins with 14. The two teams battled again the next day for an opposite outcome. The game was back and forth for the majority of the minutes with a lot of fouls to give each team chances off of free throws. The game ended in a near 60-54 win for the Sea-Hawks. Game point leader was once again, X-Women's Katie Upham with 16 followed by Sea-Hawks Alana Short with 14.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks will face the Acadia Axe-Women who have found their groove winning their last 4 games. Leading the Axe-Women in points per game is Elizabeth Iseyemi with 19.3, putting her third in the AUS. Iseyemi is also a master under the net putting her second in the AUS for rebounds.  Axe-Women Samatha Russell and Lisa Bolander are two more notable players who put up impressive numbers each game. 

The Sea-Hawks are led by Alana Short who averages 15.3 points per game. Hannah Green and Rebecka Ekstrom are behind her with 11.7 11.2 respectively. Erin Long holds an impressive field goal percentage netting 76.5%.
