Season Home Opener

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Women's Basketball team will open their season with a pair of home games against the UPEI Panthers.

Last season, Memorial placed 5th heading into the playoffs and after a hard fought quarter final, fell 77-76 in overtime to the 4th place UNB Reds. Looking to start the season off on a high note, the Sea-Hawks will hit the floor this coming weekend Oct 27th and 28th at the Fieldhouse.

"We have a solid veteran group returning with a nice mix of up and coming talent this season. Our goal is to get better each day and understand that this is a process." Says head coach Mark English who is looking forward to the start of the season. "We are excited to get our regular season started at home this weekend vs UPEI and we are striving to build on a successful preseason this weekend."

Returning for her last year of eligibility, is 5th year guard Alana Short who put up some impressive stats last season. Short finished last year's season in third place in the AUS for points per game at 19.7, building on her already impressive stat of 18.9 from the year before. Short also earned a spot on the second team all stars. Short is a valued member of the Sea-Hawks and will be looking to make a strong impact on the team once again this year.

"UPEI has a very solid group this year and it's going to be a great weekend of basketball." says English. The UPEI Panthers finished last year's regular season in third place. They lost 60-67 in the semi finals against the Saint Mary's Huskies. With only 3 new players, the Panthers have an experienced, well rounded team.
