Hawks Drop Weekend Series vs. Panthers

(ST. JOHN'S, NL.)—The UPEI Panthers (17-3) defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks (13-7) on Saturday, February 22nd, at the Field House in St. John's.  
 
The Panthers came out of the gate quickly, leading 16-5 halfway through the 1st quarter. The Panthers kept up the pace in the last half of the quarter, leading -  after 1. Reese Baxendale led the way with 12 points.  

The Sea-Hawks answered back in the 2nd quarter, putting up 29 points However, the Panthers put up 30 of their own an held a 57-37 lead at halftime. Reese Baxendale led the Panthers at halftime with 20 points, while the Sea-Hawks were led by Alana Short with 14.

Through 3 quarters of play the Panthers held a 79-49 lead, outscoring the Sea-Hawks 22-12 in the quarter.   

The Panthers continued their scoring through the 4th quarter, and take the game 103-78.

The Panthers were led by Reese Baxendale who both finished with 35 points. Karla Yepez added 16 points and 4 rebounds, while Jenna Mae Ellsworth also added 16 points with 7 rebounds.   

Memorial was led by Haille Nickerson, who notched 22 points and claimed the AUS and USPORTS scoring titles. Alana Short was next in line with 21 points and 4 assists. Haille Nickerson also led the Sea-Hawks with 6 rebounds.

The Panthers sweep the Weekend series, and both teams will head to Halifax this weekend for the AUS Basketball Championships. UPEI finished 1st in AUS standings, while Memorial placed 3rd.
