Hawks Sweep Weekend Series Vs. StFX

Sea-Hawks earn weekend sweep over X-Women 

Antigonish, NS – The Memorial Sea-Hawks earned a weekend sweep over the StFX X-Women, winning their second game in as many days with an 82-63 victory Sunday afternoon at the Saputo Centre. 

The Sea-Hawks won Saturday night as well by a 71-62 score and gained eight points in the AUS standings with the pair of wins. 

Memorial was lead by Subway player of the game Haille Nickerson (Grimsby, ON) who scored a game-high 26 points. She added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. 

Nickerson scored six points in the first quarter as the sea-Hawks opened up a 21-11 lead over the X-Women early on. 

They continued their strong play in the second quarter, holding the X-Women to eight points while they scored 21 to build up a 42-19 lead at halftime. 

The X-Women were able to hit more shots in the third quarter, despite being outscored 25-18. Briar MacDonald (Antigonish, NS) sunk a pair of three-pointers for StFX.   

Memorial lead 67-37 after the third. 

The X-Women found their stride in the fourth quarter, outpacing the Sea-Hawks 26-15, but it was too little too late as Memorial took home the 82-63 victory. 

The Sea-Hawks saw a 41-point contribution from their bench including Sammi Deakin-Sharpe ((Wynnum, AUS) with 12 and Hannah Green (Flatrock, NL) with 10.  

Memorial was able to capitalize on StFX turnovers, scoring 22 points as the X-Women gave up the ball 23 times to the Sea-Hawks 14. 

The X-Women scoring was spread throughout the line-up as MacDonald, Aliyah Fraser (New Glasgow, NS) and Jamie McCarron (New Glasgow, NS) each scored 11. MacDonald also had a double-double game with 10 rebounds. 

Kim Kingbury (Nepean, ON) and Karina Sarai (Surrey, BC) each added nine points for the X-Women. 

The game marks the end of first term AUS competition as the schedule breaks for exams and the holiday. StFX will next see action on Saturday, January 4th when they travel to Fredericton for a game against the UNB Reds. 

The Sea-Hawks will also be in action on January 4th when they host Dalhousie.
