Sea-Hawks Soar in Final Home Game

Sea-Hawks Soar in Final Home Game

The Memorial Sea-Hawks earned a weekend split with the Saint Mary's Huskies after a 77-62 victory on Saturday afternoon from The Field House.

In their final game of the season, the Hawks return after a disappointing loss to the SMU Huskies. Unfortunately for Memorial, their shooting struggles remained from the previous game, only having two players post points in the first quarter, in to some of the second quarter; Rosie Stanoev and Sydney Stewart were the offensive weapons for the Hawks to start the game, but it was hard to take a lead when other key players for Memorial were struggling.

For Saint Mary's, the scoring has been balanced and dispersed across the team. They managed to take the lead and hold it for the first half of the game, finishing the second quarter up 34-26. Their activity on both ends of the floor, especially rebounding, has separated the Huskies from the Hawks, as they have been able to create loose ball opportunities and capitalize on their hustle.

The second half was a completely different story for both teams, especially the third quarter. Memorial came out from the half time break with an attitude that put them above the Huskies, fighting back from a tough first half to put up an incredible 30 points, shutting down Saint Mary's energy and keeping them to a dismal seven points in the quarter. It was more of the same in the fourth quarter, despite a rallied effort from SMU, Memorial had their opportunity and seized it to push them above the Huskies in the final game of the season.

In her final home game, Lindsay Taylor had a solid performance, putting up 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and steals. Sydney Stewart in her return this weekend put up great numbers, 21 points, 8 rebounds, and no turnovers in the second game of the series.

For SMU, Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse had another consistent game, putting up 16 points and 4 rebounds.

With the season wrapping up today, Memorial heads to the playoffs. Final playoff seeding won't be determined until later today. All games will be available live on AUStv.ca.
