Name: Gabrielle Roche

Hometown: St. John's, Newfoundland

Position: Forward

Height: 6'2

Gabrielle Roche has committed to Coach Mark English and the Women's basketball program for the 2018-2019 season. She attends Waterford Valley High School in St. John's.

Gabrielle has had an impressive basketball career here in the province, having played provincial basketball for 4 straight summers. She has been playing high school level basketball since Grade 9 and has been a standout player for Waterford Valley. Here are some of Gabrielle's athletic achievements:

  • Canada Basketball invite 2015 and 2016
  • NL Provincial team member 2013 to 2017
  • Canada Games team member 2017
  • Premier Athletic Award recipient 2015 and 2016
  • MVP Girls Hall of Fame Cup 2017

Coach English feels Gabrielle is a key recruit and is exactly what the program needs moving forward to continue to build on their success.

"We have been recruiting Gabrielle since she was in Grade 10 so we are thrilled to have her join our program. She is a fantastic athlete with incredible length and speed. She is a 6'2 forward right now, but has potential to move to the wing position as she develops which is really exciting. Her shot has improved throughout her high school career and her ability to change shots and rebound the basketball is exactly we need as we look to continue to take our program to another level."

For Gabrielle, being close to home and a part of a positive basketball culture is what helped in her decision.

"I'm very excited to be attending Memorial this fall and starting a new chapter in my basketball career. I chose Memorial because they have a great basketball environment and everyone works hard and is super positive. Another plus is I get to stay home close to the support of my friends and family while receiving an excellent education. I'm looking forward to becoming a Sea-Hawk and being able to be a part of the basketball team."
