The Sea-Hawks ride a 3 game winning streak into Halifax this weekend where they will play the Dalhousie Tigers in a pair of 4-point games to kick off the final month of the season. With 8 points on the line, this weekend could make or break the season for the surging Sea-Hawks, so close to clinching a spot in the AUS playoffs.
January saw Memorial go 5-1, playing vastly improved basketball over their 3-5 November. In their 5 January victories, the Sea-Hawks had an average margin of victory of 8.2 points.
The Sea-Hawks will once again look for a strong performance from Graciela Diaz-Brito. Diaz-Brito was a difference maker in the Sea-Hawks sweep of the StFX X-Women posting consecutive double-doubles.
To go with Diaz-Brito's production, Brooklyn Wright and Lindsay Taylor continued to make teams pay from the perimeter. Wright shot nearly 30% from three-point line in January, and Taylor was an absolutely sublime 41% from outside. The combination of Sydney Stewart's scoring ability and the perimeter threat Taylor and Wright provide has suddenly turned the Sea-Hawks into a formidable offence.
The Tiger's will hope to contain this explosive offence, and end a conference worst 9 game losing skid. On the season they've been outscored by an average of 13.2 points, finding themselves unable to contain opponents. On a more positive note, the Tiger's are the best 3-point shooting team in the AUS at 35%. If there's one factor that could turn the tide for this team, it's that.
The games can be streamed live on AUStv.ca, and take place 6:30 PM on Friday, 1:30 PM on Saturday.
