Capers edge Sea-Hawks to earn sweep

(St. John's, NL) – For the second straight game the Cape Breton Capers topped the Memorial Sea-Hawks, securing a series sweep in AUS women's basketball action from The Field House in St. John's, NL.  The final score was 82-71 for the Capers.

Cape Breton used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Sea-Hawks on Sunday afternoon, with four players finishing in double digits in scoring.

Colleen Keane led the way with a double-double, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds.  Alison Keough provided 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Valentina Primossi and Jalunn Skeir chipped in with 15 and 14 points, respectively. 

The Sea-Hawks once again jumped out to an early lead on the Capers and had a seven-point advantage in the opening quarter.  Similar to last night however the Capers would battle back and finished the quarter with a 22-18 advantage.

Memorial would get close throughout the game, including cutting the lead to one-point in the final two minutes, but Cape Breton refused to give up the lead and eventually won by eleven points.

Sydney Stewart finished as the high-scorer for the Sea-Hawks with 20 points while grabbing 4 rebounds.  Rosie Stanoev chipped in with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in the loss.

Cape Breton returns home to face the StFX X-Women on Wednesday evening at 6:00pm AST. 

Memorial visits the UPEI Panthers next weekend to close out the first half of the season.  The Sea-Hawks and Panthers tip-off at 6:30pm NST on Saturday evening, followed by a Sunday game at 1:30pm NST.  Both games are available live on AUStv.ca.
