Sea-Hawks looking to secure first wins

The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's basketball team will be looking for the first victory of the season this weekend as they take on the StFX X-Women in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Memorial dropped their first two games of the season last weekend to the UNB Varsity Reds, while StFX also went winless dropping both games versus the UPEI Panthers.

Memorial received a strong opening weekend performance from Sydney Stewart, who averaged 16 points/game.  Graciela Diaz Brito also played well for the Sea-Hawks and is currently averaging 11.5 points/game to go along with 8.5 rebounds/game.

Sea-Hawks coach Mark English was pleased with his team's defensive effort last weekend and hopes to see the same energy this weekend.  He knows they need to pair that defensive effort with improved play on the offensive end.

"We had a lot of positives last weekend on the defensive end of the floor against UNB. We were a little out of sync on offense and have put in a good week of working on our spacing and ball movement. For us to be successful this weekend at StFX, we need to make a conscious effort to take care of the basketball on offensive and continue to have toughness on defensive."

The first game takes place on Saturday night at 6:30pm NST, followed by an afternoon match-up at 1:30pm on Sunday.  Both games are available live on www.AUStv.ca
