Sea-Hawks off to Montreal for season openers

The Memorial Sea-Hawks men's volleyball team kicks off the 2016-17 AUS volleyball season this weekend with Interlock play in Montreal, Quebec.

Memorial Head Coach Cisco Farrero believes his squad will be much improved this season behind improved play of the returning players and incoming talent, to provide more depth.

"We have a significantly deeper roster than last season and that has raised our quality of play in practice and the competition between athletes on the team has been tremendous. This weekend I want our team to battle for every point and although we play three different opponents in two days I want us to maintain a level of consistency in our play. There will be a chance to win every match this weekend if we can do that."

The Sea-Hawks will be led by returning AUS Rookie of the Year Jordan Murray and a trio of fifth year athletes, which includes Liam Power, Cody Harvey and Jared Stokes.  All four players registered a strong preseason for the Sea-Hawks and they will look to carry that into this weekend's matches.

Farrero knows what his team is capable off and expects them to reach their potential this season.  He believes that potential hinges on consistent play and that is what he is hoping to see most from his side this weekend.

"This weekend is about consistency in our play. We have shown in preseason what we can do when we are in-system on offence and playing well and we are also aware that we need to maintain that level of consistency in order to win matches regularly. Limiting runs by our opponents will be a key for us this weekend no matter who that opponent is"

Memorial plays their first match on Friday night at 7:30pm local time versus the Laval Rouge et or.  Results will be posted on the Sea-Hawks website and social media pages.
