Hawks Excited for AUS Championships

The Sea-Hawks swim team heads to Halifax, Nova Scotia this weekend to compete in 2019 AUS Swimming Championships. The tournament is hosted by Dalhousie University and runs from Friday February 8th to Sunday February 10th.

The competition involves individual and team swimming events. Everyone who enters an event races in the morning, and the top eight performers in each event re-race against each other in the evening for finals. Points are awarded based on the final race standings. Each team also puts forth a relay team at finals with the opportunity to score more points.

Members of the women's Sea-Hawks swim team include Ally Somers, Lydia Slade, Hannah Lewis, Kathryn Stokes, Laura Pittman, Brooke Batt, Keelin Tucker, Ashlen Mersereau, and Ashley Hutchings. The men's side will be represented by Ruben Rivero, Matthew Rose, Dylan Morawski, Thomas Chafe, Stefan Karaivanov, and Reilly Swain.

Captains Ally Somers and Matt Rose voiced their feelings about the weekend "it is obvious some of us are nervous, but there is definitely a lot of excitement heading into this weekend as well. The team shares their excitement with each other and it makes the meet that much more enjoyable, no matter the results".

The Sea-Hawks are hoping to finish third place overall as well as expect to see multiple teammates on the podium. They also have a few potential U Sports qualifiers that their team will be rooting for, and the two captains believe that "AUS is a great opportunity for the team to work together and support each other so that we can perform at our best".
