Hawks Wrap Up Season Versus X-Men

Hawks Wrap Up Season Versus X-Men

The Sea-Hawks are hosting the StFX X-Men for a 2-game series this weekend in St. John's to clue up their season.

The Memorial men's soccer program has had a down year, but there were a few factors that quickly changed their season. A few key injuries and close decisions cost the Hawks valuable points in the standings.

Head Coach Jake Stanford says the team's goal was to make the playoffs. While they were disappointed, they also realize that three of their games finished 0-0 and they lost two 1-0. If the team had better results on those 5 games, they would have made the post-season.

He also said that the team is always motivated to play well and improve. They are hoping to play well at home to close out the season on a positive note.

He also added "our team has improved since August. With all the adversity with key injuries and players not returning, I feel this team has shown great work ethic and character, and we will build on that for next year."

The Sea-Hawks have struggled to score goals this season, while StFX is averaging 2.6 goals per game. Memorial, who come in with a 1-6-3 record, face a tough challenge with the X-Men, who come in at 6-3-1. The Hawks will have to establish the pace and look to score more goals than they have if they want to finish the season strong against a talented StFX squad.

Even though this season has not turned out to be what they had hoped for, with a large percentage of the team being young players, the future is bright for the Sea-Hawks.

The Sea-Hawks play their final home games of the season on Friday at 7:15 PM and on Saturday at 3:15 PM at King George V.
