Sea-Hawks Drop 1-0 Decision

(Halifax, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies men's soccer team beat the Memorial University Sea-Hawks 1-0 on September 22 at Huskies Stadium for their second win of the season.

Saint Mary's had several good chances in the opening minutes from Sumit Malik (Dartmouth, NS) and Cian Tousignant-Osiadhail (Timberlea, NS) that were kept out with strong saves by MUN keeper Braedan Sheppard (St. John's, NL).

SMU's Tyler Dorey (Dartmouth, NS) scored in the 25th minute of the game. Tousignant-Osiadhail sent a corner kick to Dorey at the far post, who cleanly headed it in for his second goal of the season.

Memorial nearly tied it up less than five minutes later with a shot from Ian Gamba (St. John's, NL) that went off the crossbar. The rebound was kept out by the Huskies, to maintain their lead.

Saint Mary's led 1-0 at the end of the half.

The Sea-Hawks dominated the scoring chances in the second half of the game with a shot from Owen McAlesse (St. John's, NL) that went just high of the net, and two strong chances from Ranaldo Morris (Mount Pearl, NL).

Huskies forward Romario Mullings (Halifax, NS) was kicked out of the game after getting his second yellow card of the game with just over 20 minutes to go.

The Sea-Hawks kept pressing right to the end with several more scoring chances that were kept out by the strong play of Huskies keeper Christian Oxner (Halifax, NS). Memorial had another shot go off the crossbar, but with no goal scored the game ended 1-0 in favor of the Huskies.

With the win, SMU improves to 2-1-2, while MUN falls to 1-2-2. The Subway Player of the Game for the Huskies was Oxner.
