The Memorial Sea-Hawks men's soccer team hits the pitch on Saturday, September 8th to open their AUS schedule at home versus the UPEI Panthers on King George V Field at 3:15pm.

The Sea-Hawks finished with a 5-6-1 record last season in the AUS, good enough for a 6th overall finish, securing the final AUS playoff berth.

Head Coach Jake Stanford who is heading into his fourth season with the Sea-Hawks is looking to build on last season's success and feels that the team will once again be playoff contenders.

"We have very good middle leadership within our team and I believe that will help drive us this season.  We are looking to continue with a strong working attitude and make our home games to be tough battles and make it tough for teams to take any points from us."

In order for the Sea-Hawks to reach that potential they will need a strong season from some returning players. They will look for leadership from second year & team captain Mike O'Brien (Mount Pearl, NL) in the backline. Owen McAleese (St. John's, NL) & Iain Gamba (St. John's, NL) are also key returnees. Owen will lead the Sea-Hawks in the middle of the field this season.

Gamba will not only be providing leadership for the young Hawks squad on the field, but also with the adjustment they face making the jump from high school to university.

"I think being a part of the leadership group is a really important role, especially this season. I know Jake will have high expectations from his veterans because of the young group we have. I will be counted on to lead the team not only on the field, but also in the classroom and with the student-athlete lifestyle," said Gamba.

The men will open their season on Saturday at 3:15pm and Sunday at 3:15pm at King George V Soccer Field. Tickets are available at the KGV gate.
