Sea-Hawks add English Soccer Standout

Sean Ray (East Peckham, England) joins the Memorial Sea-Hawks men's soccer team for the 2018-19 season.

Ray has an impressive background, playing his youth soccer with Pembury Athletic FC, earning 2 Player of the Season awards and 2 Top Scorer awards over his 3 season with the club. He then joined Aylesford FC, leading the league in scoring with 20 goals in 18 games. Most recently, Ray has been playing with Roseland FC, a first division men's league team, and he has managed to score 15 goals over the first 15 games of the season.  The English standout also secured a trial with Charlton Athletic (EPL – League One) and was invited to their development academy but was unable to commit to the program due to his school commitments.

Sea-Hawks Head Coach Jake Stanford has high hopes for his latest recruit and feels he will be a strong addition to the squad.

"I am thrilled to have landed such a player from the UK to come play for us at Memorial. Sean is a very talented and skilled attacking style player who has proven to be a goal scorer at all levels of soccer that he played in England. I expect Sean to have an immediate impact with our team and I am looking forward to having him with the Sea-Hawks program."

Sean looks forward to coming to Newfoundland and representing the Sea-Hawks next season. He decided to become a Sea-Hawk after positive discussions with Coach Stanford.

"I chose Memorial because the interest from Coach Stanford and other people involved with the soccer team was great.  They made me feel wanted and from looking at the university it just looked like a great place to call home."

He feels he can bring some offensive firepower to the team next season.

"I hope to bring a lot to the team by working hard to play as many games as I can, but most importantly I want to score and create goals."

The Sea-Hawks open the season at home on Saturday, September 8th against the UPEI Panthers at King George V Soccer Field.  For more information, visit http://www.goseahawks.ca/
