(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks earned a 1-0 victory over the UNB Varsity Reds on Sunday afternoon in St. John's, NL.  The win improves the Sea-Hawks record to 4-4-0 on the season, while the Varsity Reds now sit at 2-3-2. 

The Sea-Hawks looked like a different team than the one that allowed 5 first half goals to the Varsity Reds in yesterday's match.  Today's game was back and forth, with both teams battling hard to take the game's first lead.

Memorial was the more aggressive team in the first half, registering 6 shots on goal and controlling most of the possession.  UNB keeper Evan Barker was able to keep the Sea-Hawks off the scoresheet and the teams would go into the half scoreless.

UNB came out strong to start the second half and had the Sea-Hawks on their heels.  Rookie keeper Jack Haywood was making his first career start and did well to keep the home side in it, as the Varsity Reds came close to scoring on multiple occasions. 

Memorial would finally break the deadlock in the 67^th minute, when AUS goal scoring leader Tyler Forsey found the back of the net on a great solo effort.  The Varsity Reds pushed hard for the equalizer, but Haywood held on for the clean sheet.

After the game Forsey was asked how his squad was able to regroup after a poor showing in the previous match.

"That was a one-off. You won't see that from us again. That's sport and sometimes those things happen. Coach made some great adjustments based on yesterday's performance and the rest was on us. Today we battled and it was good to see every single player work hard and be ready for the challenge.  We fought hard and got the result we deserved."

Forsey has been a crucial part of the Sea-Hawks earlier season success and he attributes that to his offseason training.

"Personally, I've put in countless hours of work over the offseason and summer. I was in good form this summer and was fortunate enough to carry that onto the field as a Sea-Hawk. That's only one factor, but the main factor is within my teammates. We all believe we can win every single time we step on the field, and we battle for every possession."

Forsey earned Subway Player of the Game honors for his game winning strike.

The Sea-Hawks now have a two-week break before heading to PEI to take on the Panthers on October 21^st.  The Varsity Reds are back in action on October 15^th when they head to Moncton to face les Aigles Bleus.
