The Sea-Hawks are pleased to announce a new recruit for the men's soccer program.  Michael O'Brien, a transfer from the University of Ottawa, will be joining the Sea-Hawks for the upcoming season.  

Michael, originally from Newfoundland, has spent the last three and a half years in Ottawa with the Ottawa Fury FC of the Super Y League. He made the team as a 16-year-old rookie, and helped his team to a finals appearance in his very first season. Michael spent time with the Fury FC Reserve squad, of the Quebec Men's Semi-Pro League (PLSQ) where he finished 2015. He started 2016 with the Fury FC Reserve and played the full season there, spending some time with the pro practice squads as well.  

Michael's success has not been exclusive to his time in Ontario. From 2008 to 2013 Michael was voted MVP by the Newfoundland Soccer Association, as well as in the Atlantic Canadian Championships. It was during this time that Michael was entered into the Regional Training Centre, an elite camp for the best youth players in the country, directed by Soccer Canada. He remained with the camp until 2013, when Fury FC came calling. During that period, Michael was named captain of each club he played for, and showed off his versatility, playing right and left back, as well as centre midfield.  

The the six-foot defender is coming from the University of Ottawa, and he plans to enter the Commerce program at Memorial. Coach Jake Stanford had this to say about his newest recruit:

"I am thrilled to have landed such an excellent player to our program here at Memorial. Michael left his home province at a young age to pursue his soccer goals and was a player with the Ottawa FC Program. He had offers to play in the USA but chose to be closer to home and play for the Sea-Hawks. He will be a key part of our lineup and is a versatile player that can play anywhere across our backline and I expect him to have an immediate impact on our team this year. He is very skilled with the ball and has an excellent soccer I.Q and a tremendous attitude."

Michael, along with the rest of our new recruits, figure to immediately impact the Sea-Hawks this season.
