Mens Sea-Hawks Home Opener

Mens Sea-Hawks Home Opener

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Men's Basketball team will open their season with a pair of home games against the UPEI Panthers.

Last season, Memorial placed 6th heading into the playoffs and after a challenging quarter final, fell 87-48 in overtime to the 3rd place Dalhousie Tigers. Anticipating a positive start to the season, the Sea-Hawks will hit the floor this coming weekend Oct 27th and 28th at the Fieldhouse.

Head coach Ian Coultas commented on his anticipation prior to this coming weekend's games, "We have high expectations for ourselves as this season begins. We return a high percentage of our roster from last year and have added in some really strong players that I'm expecting will make an immediate difference this season. Key players we are returning are AUS 1st Team All-Star Emanuel Ring (St. John's, NL), Nick Tuff (St. John's, NL), and Flynn Boardman-Raffet (London, UK). We are also fortunate to welcome back experienced Jason Thompson (St. John's, NL), for his 5th and final season."

The Sea-Hawks have some promising new additions to their roster as well. "Two of our key new additions are 6'10" Forward Josh Francis (Calgary, AB) and Josh Reimer (St. John's, NL), who joins us after spending the last two seasons with Queens" explains Coultas.

Coultas is expecting the first games to test his dedicated, hard working roster. "We welcome in UPEI for our first weekend, who made it to the U Sports National Championship last season and they return 7 players. They are a well-coached and experienced team that we will need to be ready for. I expect two challenging games from PEI this weekend and we will need to put together a great defensive effort in both games to slow them down. They have a number of players on their roster that we are expecting big games from, with Kamara Scott and Jace Colley being high on that list" says Coultas.

"We have had a good showing in preseason and feel ready and excited for the season to begin on home court." In pre season, the Sea-Hawks walked away with 3 wins and 3 losses, giving the team ample games to prepare for the AUS season.
