Sea-Hawks Win Against Tigers

The Memorial Sea-Hawks won the first of their two-game series against the visiting Dalhousie Tigers, 83-79.

The Sea-Hawks were ready to face the defending champions right from the get-go, establishing an early lead. Nathan Barker was able to awake from his early season slumber with 10 points in the first quarter. Another major part of their early success was the defensive effort from Devon Tobin who locked down one of Dalhousie' major threats, Keevan Veinot, who remained scoreless through the first half. The second half, however, the Tigers bared their claws.

In the third quarter, Dalhousie outscored the Hawks 25-16, marking their best quarter of play, shooting incredibly well from the field. Without the early lead that they established, this would have broken the Sea-Hawks heading into the final frame. Alex Carson from the Tigers was able to post 10 points in this frame, making up for the uncharacteristically poor performance from Keevan Veinot.

Heading into the final frame, the Sea-Hawks braced against Dalhousie's final attempt to crack their lead, cutting it to single digits. Despite their best attempts, it was too little, too late for Dalhousie. The Tigers struggled to contain Nathan Barker and Cole Long, finishing with 21 and 22 points respectively. Long was able to finish with a double-double with 10 rebounds; Barker earned player of the game commendations. Memorial will look to complete the sweep tomorrow at 3:00pm.
