Memorial Sea-Hawks Top Cape Breton

The Sea-Hawks were able to complete the weekend series swept against the Cape Breton Capers, winning Sunday's game 86-74.

After their first win of the season, the Sea-Hawks came out ready to play against the Capers. It was a solid start to the final game of the weekend, neither team giving up much of an advantage. The second quarter was where the Sea-Hawks were able to open up their lead, finishing the half ahead by 18, leading 49-31. Osman Omar put up another dependable performance in the first twenty minutes, leading the Capers with 12 points. For the Hawks, three of starting five were able to post double digits (Long – 15 points; Thompson – 11 points; Barker – 10 points).

The third quarter was a tough frame for the Capers. They struggled to score from all over the floor. It was a disappointing display that left many on the CBU team frustrated, ultimately leading to an ejection from the game for Cooper Ward, the Caper Veteran. Throughout the third, Memorial was able to capitalize on their frusrations, winning every quarter save for the fourth.

In the final frame of the game, the Capers put forth a great effort, ultimately cutting the lead in half, but it proved too little, too late. While CBU was able to put up an impressive scoring display of nearly thirty points in a quarter, the Hawks lead was insurmountable. The Capers couldn't complain about Osman Omar's performance as he finished with a game-high 29 points. For the Sea-Hawks, Cole Long was exceptional once again, posting a team-high 24 points. Jason Thompson was another bright spot for MUN as he posted 14 points, earning player of the game commendations as well. Next week, the Sea-Hawks will be looking to extend their winning streak with another weekend series at home against the Dalhousie Tigers. Both games of the weekend will be available on austv.ca.
