Barker Leads Hawks in Sunday Win

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (3-6) split the weekend series between the UNB Reds (6-3) after Sunday's game.

The game started hot for the Hawks, hitting their first three shots right out the gate. UNB stayed with them, providing a high scoring frame of basketball. Memorial grew their lead throughout the first half. The Hawks were leading 23-14 after the first, 45-29 after the second. Nathan Barker a healthy 14 points, supported by Paddy Dawe's 10 points and 5 rebounds.

UNB struggled to convert on offense in the first half, shooting under 40% from the field, under 25% from deep, and under 60% from the line. It was a night and day performance compared to the previous game against the Hawks. Daniel Pitcher was the leader for the Reds, continuing his solid performance from last night in to the final game of the weekend. At the half, Pitcher had 10 points and 4 rebounds.

The third quarter was a continuation of the first half; the Hawks kept their pace up and maintained a lead. UNB struggled to string together any runs to cut away at the lead. Despite Memorial's poor shooting in the third, UNB could not convert on their part. Kosta Tiodorovic had a big and-one play at the end of the third quarter, keeping Memorial in control of the momentum.

The fourth had a rallying effort from the Reds. They strung together three straight and-one plays giving them much needed energy. However, Memorial was able to ride out the momentum created for the Reds. It was a emotionally charged frame of basketball as UNB made a valiant effort in pursuing victory. For the Reds, Ibrahima Doumbouya led in scoring with 18. Daniel Pitcher supported with 12 points and 11 rebounds. For MUN, Nathan Barker trail-blazed with 27. He was supported with two other starters posting double-digit points (Thompson and Dawe).

This was a much-needed win for the Men's team. They travel to Acadia next weekend for a two game series. Both games will be available for live stream at AUStv.ca.
