Veterans Davion Parnsalu and Daniel Gordon weren't going to let their team leave the Island without a win.

The Memorial guards combined to score 52 points as they took care of the UPEI Panthers 92-79 in the Sunday matinee.

The win was huge for the Sea-Hawks (5-11), who now have a 10-point advantage over UPEI (3-13) for the final playoff spot. With four games remaining and just 12 points on the table, a lot would have to go the Panthers way if they were to clinch a berth – including winning out the rest of the way.

After a disappointing shooting effort the night before, Memorial came out with a renewed sense of energy. Parnsalu got it going early, scoring 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting. The Subway Player of the Game finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Gordon also got in on the action following an uncharacteristic 2-of-15 shooting night on Saturday. He put up nine first-quarter points, including a pair of triples, as the Sea-Hawks took a commanding 29-17 lead into the second.

The two guards wouldn't let up and continued their stellar play in the second, as Parnsalu and Gordon entered the half with 19 and 15 points, respectively. Memorial was able to extend their lead to as many as 17 in the frame, but the Panthers shaved it back down to 49-37 with a Samy Mohamed triple as time expired.

The Sea-Hawks supporting cast delivered in the third quarter, as Greg Manuel, Nathan Baker and Jason Thompson poured in a combined 16 points to open up a 71-52 advantage.

Despite being down by 19, the resilient Panthers clawed to within 11 in the opening minutes of the fourth and looked to get back into the game. The only problem was that they couldn't contain Memorial on the other end of the floor. The Sea-Hawks continued to shoot the ball well – 50.7 per cent in the game – as they came away with the weekend split, 92-79.
