Sea-Hawks Earn Big Win over Capers

The Memorial Sea-Hawks started 2018 on the right foot, with an 88-73 victory over the Cape Breton Capers on Sunday afternoon. Returning from the winter break did not slow down the Cape Breton Capers or the Memorial Sea-Hawks. Both teams came out quickly with a break-neck pace, looking for quick points. The speed of the game got the blood flowing on both teams, with lots of contact on both ends of the floor.

Memorial held the lead through the first two quarters, 18-15, and 32-25 respectively. Both teams had balanced scoring across the board, Daniel Gordon of the Hawks coming off the bench strong with a quick three and fast-break dunk for his first five points; Gordon finished with eight total in the half. For the Capers, Osman Omar led the team with seven. Going in to the second half, it was anybody's game with only a seven-point difference.

At the start of the third, the Hawks came out gunning, going on an 8-0 run. Austin Chambers sparked the offense with a three-pointer and an and-one basket. The Hawks kept the pressure on throughout the second half, creating loose ball opportunities, and converting off turnovers. The fourth quarter was strong for Memorial, buoyed by Daniel Gordon' 16 points in the quarter; He knocked down the outside shot with confidence and his teammates kept feeding his hot hand.

Despite frustrations on both sides of the floor, Memorial managed to achieve a solid win over Cape Breton 88-73; Daniel Gordon was named player of the game. The Hawks look to continue their momentum going in to the next game of this series, both worth four-points in the AUS standings. The Hawks currently stand 3-6 on the season; CBU stands at 2-6.
