The UNB Varsity Reds improved to 7-and-0 with a 90-55 win over the Memorial University Sea-Hawks Saturday night.

Will Legere(Amherst, NS) scored a game-high 23 points to lead the V-Reds. He was named Subway Player of the Game.

Javon Masters(Kitchener, ON) added 17 points, six rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

Nathan Barker(Massey Drive, NL) led the Sea-Hawks with 18 points and four rebounds.

Davion Parnsalu(Ajax, ON) was the only other Sea-Hawk in double figures. He scored 11 points.

The Varsity Reds set the tone early, racing out to a 12-0 lead before the game was five minutes old.

Memorial fought back, but trailed 22-10 after one quarter and 36-23 at the half.

UNB scored 22 points in both the third and fourth quarters, holding the Sea-Hawks to just 12 in the final frame.

"It's huge, it's a four-point game," said Legere. "We came out strong. Javon scored well. We defended well and then I thought we fell asleep a little bit near the end of the second quarter and then we kind of woke up at half time and said let's not let them creep back into this."

The Varsity Reds shot 44% from the field, and out-rebounded the Sea-Hawks 46-33.

Despite the lop-sided outcome, Legere says the V-Reds were mindful of their opponent.

"Anyone can win any game. Everyone is good in this league," he said. "Anyone can beat anyone on any given night."

"The team we just had on the floor tonight is not the team that played St FX tough last weekend," said Sea-Hawks head coach Peter Benoite. "That was not the same team. I don't know where we were tonight, but we were not the same team."

The Sea-Hawks have little time to figure out how to deal with the Varsity Reds. The two teams complete their weekend series on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.

"We've got to forget about it," said Benoite. "We've got to move on. It is what it is. We didn't show up to play. We've got to forget about it and come back and have a better mind-set tomorrow."

Before the game, the Varsity Reds honoured Masters.

Last weekend, he became the all-time leading scorer in Atlantic University Sport history.

Masters was presented with the ball he set the new record with, and was given a standing ovation.

"The people of Fredericton have been so supportive over the last couple of years," said Masters. "It meant a lot."

"Sometimes that can be a bit of a distraction for a team, but we came out 12-0 and then held them. It means a lot."

With the win, UNB holds on to first place in the AUS standings.

The Sea-Hawks, now 1-and-6, are seventh.
