X-Men Prevail Over Hawks

(St. John's, NL) The Memorial Sea-Hawks were defeated 103-96 at the hands of the StFX X-Men on Saturday night from The Field House.  The loss drops the Sea-Hawks record to 0-5, while StFX get their first victory of the season and now sit at 1-3.

The Sea-Hawks and St. FX X-Men were evenly matched between the first two quarters of their two-game series. Memorial took the first quarter 29-28, and the X-Men took the second quarter leading 52-47. The X-Men were having a successful shooting performance through the first half, making 23 on 37 shots (62.2%). 

The X-Men applied pressure during the second quarter, creating fast break points off turnovers. Julius Antoine led St. FX in the first half, scoring 18 on 7/9 shooting. For Memorial, Nathan Barker has continued his consistent performance from last weekend, leading the Sea-Hawks with 14 points, on 6/11 from the field. 

The intensity was heightened in the second half, especially in the third. Paddy Dawe provided a strong spark with a resounding dunk. Daniel Gordon had an excellent third quarter as well, scoring 11 points, scoring a three pointer at the end to tie up the game heading into the fourth. Gordon ended with 30 points, shooting 4/10 from beyond the arc. 

The X-Men competed with Memorial, making clutch plays down the stretch to counter the intense Fieldhouse atmosphere. Two X-Men ended with 20+ points, Kevin Bercy (23) and Julius Antoine (27). Antoine earned himself Player-of-the-Game commendations as well. 

The X-Men prevailed over Memorial, taking the game 103-96 with a fired-up Fieldhouse crowd. St. FX held their composure late making clutch baskets. This win over Memorial is the first for the season; the Sea-Hawks are yet to earn their first victory. Memorial and St. FX face off again tomorrow at 2 pm. The game will also be available online at AUStv.ca.
