Sea-Hawks Open Preseason in Ontario

The Memorial Sea-Hawks men's basketball team will play their first game action of the season this weekend, as they travel to Ontario for preseason action.

The team's first game comes Friday evening against the Brock University, followed by a Saturday contest versus McMaster, with the final game taking place on Sunday versus York University.

Memorial looks to build on a successful 2016-17 campaign, which saw the team finish the season with a 12-8 record and earn an AUS playoff berth.

The Sea-Hawks will use the preseason to adjust to life without 6'9" big man Vasilije Curcic, who wrapped up his varsity career last spring after 5 dominant years in the red and white. Memorial will use these games to adapt to a new playing style this season, moving towards a more uptempo style.

"This trip will be a great test for us to see if a more uptempo style will suit us this year. We've been a post oriented team for quite a while, and I believe the guys are excited to get out and run a little more" says Hawks Head Coach, Peter Benoite.

Benoite is looking forward to getting on the road for the first time with this year's team, as it will allow them to build chemistry before beginning the new season.

"This trip is to get us back in game action and test ourselves after being together for a month now. After beating up on each other in practice, the guys are excited to get some game action in, and the road trip gives us a good opportunity to spend a lot of time together and allows the rookies and veterans to get to know each other more."

Memorial will be led this season by 5th year guards Davion Parnsalu (Ajax, ON) and Daniel Gordon (York, ON). Nathan Barker (Massey Drive, NL) will look to improve on a successful rookie season, which saw him land a spot on the AUS All-Rookie Team.
