Ring & Thompson Commit to Sea-Hawks

The Memorial Men's Basketball team is excited to announce that both Emmanuel Ring (St. John's, NL) and Jason Thompson (St. John's, NL) have committed to the men's basketball program for the 2017-18 season.

Emmanuel Ring, a 6'4" guard/wing from St. John's, NL, has been a standout player at both the high school and provincial levels.  Ring is coming off an exceptional high school season, where he led his Prince of Wales Cavaliers to a 4A championship and a 37-1 overall record.  He has also represented Newfoundland & Labrador at Nationals on two separate occasions. Last summer he was the leading scorer and rebounder of the tournament averaging 22.7 PTS/GM and 9.8 REB/GM.

Peter Benoite, Head Coach of the Sea-Hawks, is excited to add Emmanuel to the team and believes he can turn into a high-level player in the AUS.

"Very excited to add Emmanuel Ring to the team for next season.  Emmanuel is a dynamic scorer who has length and size and can cause havoc on the defensive end.  He brings a winning mentality, fresh off a provincial championship with PWC only losing one game all year. Emmanuel will add IQ and athleticism to our team, and I'm excited to see his progress, as I feel he has a big upside to his game"

Jason Thompson, a 5'11" guard, has also been a standout at the high school level for the Waterford Valley High Warriors and has represented Newfoundland & Labrador on four separate occasions at National tournaments.  In 2015, Thompson was named the MVP of the North Pole Hoops East Coast Showcase, in which he was up against some of the top players in Atlantic Canada.

Benoite feels Jason's work ethic will enable him to thrive at the university level.

"Very pleased to add Jason Thompson to our roster.  Jason will give us added depth at the PG position and will challenge our current guards to play at a high level.  Jason is a pass first point guard with a high basketball IQ.  He has great court vision and with an ability to find the open player in tough spots.  Jason brings a competitive desire to win, and I believe he will be an even better University player then high school player."
