Sea-Hawks Begin Quest for AUS Championship

Sea-Hawks Begin Quest for AUS Championship

The Memorial Sea-Hawks begin their quest for an AUS Championship this weekend in Halifax, NS at the Scotiabank Centre. They begin against a familiar opponent, the Acadia Axemen who they split their final regular season matchup with just last weekend.

The two teams hadn't seen each other in the 2016-17 season, but will now play for a third time in 7 days, this one being the first quarterfinal game. Memorial dropped the first game of their series with Acadia, 97-82, but bounced back with an 84-74 win on Saturday. Typically, strong performances from Daniel Gordon and Vasilije Curcic led the way in both games for the Sea-Hawks, and they'll be hoping from more of the same in their quarterfinal matchup.

Star guard Davion Parnsalu returned from an ankle injury and looked to be 100 percent despite some rust. In the win on Saturday, he finished with an impressive 6 points, 9 boards, 7 assists and 3 steals. The timing couldn't be better as the Sea-Hawks are looking to once more find the consistency that had them leading the AUS just a few weeks ago.

Acadia will be looking to their great big man, Kyle Arseneault, to continue his solid production. He led his team in scoring in both games last weekend (20, 22) and was dominant on the glass.

If the Sea-Hawks can execute their offense and get good looks for their shooters, they should be able to reproduce the result from Saturday. Head Coach Peter Benoite knows his team will need a solid effort to get past the Axemen.

"There are some things we will adjust based on last weekend, but I think we are going in knowing what we have to do, we just have to be ready to execute and stay disciplined, and make sure we play the right way, and stay within the way that makes us play our best.  At this point its about executing what you know how to do, and competing as hard as you can on both ends of the floor.  That will be our main focus for the weekend."

The game goes Friday night at 7:00 PM NST. All 5 of the playoff games in the AUS Championship can be streamed live on AUStv.ca.
