Sea-Hawks & Tigers Meet for First Time

Sea-Hawks & Tigers Meet for First Time

After a week off and a much needed rest, the Sea-Hawks travel to Halifax this weekend to take on Dalhousie in a pair of 4-point games to kick off February. Two wins this weekend for either team would go a long way in securing a playoff birth, and differentiating themselves atop the suddenly tightly contested AUS standings.

The Sea-Hawks are getting back star big man Vasilije Curcic this weekend, who was out for the teams sweep of the StFX X-Men. Though they were able to pick up two victories in his absence, thanks largely to big performances from Kieran Hawksley and Greg Manuel, the return of their leading scorer is a welcome addition.

In their last game against StFX, the Hawks shot a combined 51.5% from the field. This is something Peter Benoite has tried to impart to his team this season, maintaining a good balance, while remembering what their strengths are. When they keep the ball in motion and make good decisions they become a nightmare for defences.

Perhaps an overlooked factor in that has been the play of Davion Parnsalu. The Sea-Hawks point guard is so often the initiator on offence, and showed StFX on Saturday what happens when he gets a step on his man. While his numbers might not always blow you away, he's been incredibly valuable for this team. Both in running the offence and in helping on the defensive end, where he's averaging nearly 2 steals per game.

The Sea-Hawks will look to maintain their effienciency on the offensive end against a tough Dalhousie Tigers squad. The Tigers come into this game giving up a measly 71.6 PPG, nearly 10 fewer points than the next best team. The key for Dalhousie's continued success is offensive production to match their defensive effort. In their 4 losses, the Tigers are still only relenting 77.75 PPG. Yet they are only scoring 69.5.

This is sure to be a great set of games, two of the best teams in the AUS meeting for the first time this season. The games go 8:30 PM on Saturday, and 3:30 PM on Sunday. You can watch live, as always, on AUStv.ca.
