Hawks Hold Off X-Men

Hawks Hold Off X-Men

Both StFX and Memorial's men's basketball teams must have been inspired by the wild ending to the women's game earlier this evening, because this one came down to the final seconds as well.

The Sea-Hawks Chris Dobbin clinched the victory by blocking Julius Antoine's 3 with less than 5 seconds left, but the real story was the way Memorial got things done offensively.

Ordinarily, that particular sports cliché is employed when a team relies on several players to make moderate contributions. Tonight, that sells the performance of the Sea-Hawks starting group criminally short, with 4 of the Hawks 5 starters finishing in double figures, Davion Parnsalu leading the way with 19. Greg Manuel filled in beautifully for leader scorer Vasilije Curcic (out due to suspension), dropping 18 points and scooping up 9 boards.

For the X-Men, they see themselves draw into a tie atop the AUS with Memorial, despite a huge night from Kevin Bercy. The big man poured in 23 points on 10 of 18 shooting, and staked his claim to any and all missed shots. He picked up a game high 18 rebounds, including 6 on the offensive end.

After tonight's wild finish, these teams get a chance to lock horns again tomorrow at 2:00 PM. You can come on down to the Field House, or you can catch the game live on AUStv.ca
